Welcome to BonBon's Toy Closet!

BonBon's Toy Closet in real life contains toys, games, and books for my grandchildren. But several other closets have been taken over for my dolls, doll clothes, doll furniture, doll houses, doll accessories, doll sewing materials, doll trunks, and various doll supplies!

After about 15 years of playing dolls, I decided to share some of the results on this blog. I hope you enjoy looking around. You will find Cissy dolls, vintage hard plastic dolls, Tonner Ann Estelle and Sophie dolls, doll houses, and a variety of other topics.

"Royal Reception" Cissy Doll

Madame Alexander issued "Royal Reception" Cissy in 2001.  With her elaborately-styled wig and blue eyes, some people say she resembles Virginia Mayo.

Her original Madame Alexander ballgown is made of bejeweled ecru silk fabric, with draped waist and a bow over one shoulder. It closes with a zipper in back and is completely lined.  With the name "Royal Reception," one assumes Cissy will attend an event with royalty in this stunning dress.

There is a rose corsage at the dropped waist as an accent.  The Madame Alexander faux gold and diamond necklace and earrings provide just the right accent with this dress.  (Not shown are long white velvet gloves that came with the outfit.)

I designed and made this dress from a rayon fabric, black with irregular white dots.  The two flounces at the bottom are lined in white, and there is a black sash.  Black and white strappy shoes complement the dress.

The doll has her original golden blonde wig in the first photo, and an ash-blonde shorter wig in the second.  I liked both wigs on this doll.  Each one produces a completely different look.  The following photo shows Cissy in the second wig at her dressing table, admiring herself, as usual.

Cissy's blue nightgown was cut on the bias for a shapely fit, and I used white Venise lace as trim on the bodice and hem. The color looks pretty with her blue eyes.

For casual wear, Cissy has aqua knit slacks and top.  I made this from a blouse of mine that got bleach on it on laundry day.  I had only worn the blouse once or twice and loved the pleated neckline.  So, I decided to make Cissy an outfit from the blouse.  I used the center vee of the blouse's pleated neckline on Cissy's blouse, and cut the rest of the doll outfit from the undamaged areas of the blouse.  I did not tell Cissy it was recycled.  She is such a fashion snob.  I told her it was a one-of-a-kind high-fashion design, and she believed every word.

The navy slacks and jacket, and the blue-and-white striped silk blouse, were made by Jane Perilloux.  I made the white pleated skirt.  The four pieces mix-and-match for various looks.  All the pieces have a bit of a nautical look.  Maybe she takes this outfit to wear when her friend invites her for a trip on his yacht.

I designed and made this gown from black and white plaid silk taffeta, with a black velvet bodice.  This dress has a "fifties feel" in style.

The multi-layered red net petticoat provides fullness for the heavy lined skirt, plus it adds a bit of contrast when she goes dancing.

The handsome Marine compliments Cissy on her dress when he takes her to the formal dance. He brought the red corsage.
